Wayne Report 8 Dec 2015 11:08

HI,

I am looking to find further information on the following

marriage date: 25/10/1824
place: All Saints, Worcester
Spouse: Mary Stevens
FHL Film No: 394851
Ref ID: p.140

I am looking to find out who Henry's parents were and his age.
Is there any alternative to find this info other than a visit to Worcester Records Office? I live in Birmingham so not that far to travel but thought I'd check here first!

Thanks.

Maddie

Thanks Maddie/Malyon

Malyon - thanks, Yes I found Ruben and traced him to Birmingham in the 1851 census and Henry (brother) is in Birmingham too (married).

Think I will need to go to Worcester to find wedding cert and find more info on their parents to trace back further.

i cant find them in 1841 census

Wayne

Wayne Report 8 Dec 2015 12:52

No trace of parents Henry and Mary on any census

1841 census: I can't find Ruben (but he married Ann Brown in 1851). Brother Henry is in Birmingham General Hospital in 1841 census as a patient (occupation Iron Moulder) and is on Ruben's marriage cert.

Pre 1837, Marriage records won't record the names of the parents.
Ones in 1824 will tell you

The Status of the individuals - spinster, widowed etc
Which Parish they reside in
Whether 'Of full age' (21) or 'With consent of Parents' implying they were a 'Minor'
Whether by Banns or Licence
The names and signatures of the witnesses.

You might be lucky if the witnesses surnames are the same as the bride/groom, but you don't know for certain if they are related or how.

An example can be seen here

PricklyHolly - many thanks for all of the info, need to take it in!

Yes I think it is the same Ruben due to birthplace and occupation.

Some of the Pantons at that time were Iron Moulders and appears left Worcester for Birmingham (and one to Liverpool for a brief time). Fascinating stuff.

Thanks again.
