I have a couple, Robert MacPherson and Lilian Munroe who were married in the Japanese Consulate of Kobe (no, I have never heard of it either). The Vol is 3 and page 998 BUT no year is given, only 1911 to 1915. I can see no way on the GRO site to be able to order a certifiacte.

I will telephone them tomorrow but in the meantime does anyone have any ideas?

Gerry :-)

Thanks very much PricklyHolly. That is very useful. I have now been able to find them in 1939 Census. Robert MacPherson was a retired banker.

Where did you find the marriage info please for future reference

Hi Maddie

Thanks for the extra info. Its all adding meat to the bones and producing a bigger picture of the family.

These people were the birth ancestors of my friend who was adopted as a baby. Martin Shiphan Munroe was her Great Grandfather.

Thanks to Prickly Holly, for example, I have just found the sad story of my friend's aunt. The aunt, a nurse, was on a small boat in Malaysia in 1942 with about 130 mainly women and children when it was sunk by the Japanese, Only about 30 survived. The aunt was not one of them
