I wonder whether anyone can help me find out what happened to my great-uncle please?

He was William Robert Guest, born 15 December 1903 at Liverpool, England and baptised into the RC Church there.

His father, also William Robert Guest, paid for the son's passage to Canada and eventually he seems to have settled in the Toronto area of Ontario. He married Flora Lavinia England on 10 November 1926 in the York District of Ontario where he gave the false age of 27 instead of his real age of 22 and he gave his occupation as confectioner.

I have found Flora's death - 30 July 1970; she is interred at Toronto's Mount Pleasant Cemetery. There is a headstone which says 'wife of William ...' which leads me to believe that he was still alive at that time. As the headstone did not mention 'mother', I think they may not have had any children.

I have lost him at that point. He had two sisters one of whom went to Australia where she married twice, having been widowed at a young age. The mother also went to Aus after the father, Wm Robert senior died in London.

If anyone can help me in tracing what happened to him, I'd be most grateful.

What a shame! The 1921 Canadian census was taken June 1st and he arrived the 12th.

That's the right one and his father paid for his passage, Margee. From memory (I have it written down somewhwere) he was heading for the Salvation Army or some such place of residence.

There's a lot of information online but nothing to indicate what happened to him after his wife's death or when he died.

This seems familiar. Have we worked on it before? It's Florence's occupation as a bon bon dipper that reminded me.

Edit: Yes, I had worked on it before and made fun of the bon bon dipper:

Yes, Margee, I do have that info. Interestingly, Florence was also known as Flora Lavinia.

I was beginning to wonder whether he had died and was eventually buried with Flora/Florence but there was no-one there to add to the inscription on the gravestone.

I ought to have simply added this thread onto the end of the one you've indicated above, Margee, but I forgot it was there.

I shall still try to find his whereabouts after his wife died but should I add this to the other thread?
