Chris looking at the 1881 census with the line trough fisherman some one once told me they do this sometimes it is to do with the way they count people .But the fact it says of her wife and married I assume he is still living I must admit I did find in the Lowerstoft records office he was also an agricultural labourer regards Walt

Walter Webb born 1871 son of William and Georgiana is my grand father only child to survive three other children Frances 1872 died 1873 William born 1874 died 1877 Alice 1876 died 1887 on each birth cert father is William I have also confirmed this at the Lowestoft records office .It looks as if she was not very lucky with children .1881 census it shows she is married but as William was not at home when census taken he was not listed it just shows her as fisherman wife.It is not until 1891 that she is listed as a widow . The closet any one has got to the death of William is the case you brought to light of Georgiana and the baby in the parcel saying husband dead about twelve months which would I assume make him dying between 1883/1884 where he died still the mystery my thanks to you regards Walt

Well well, Chris Ho, that's really interesting..........................

14 March 1885 - Framlingham Weekly News - Framlingham, Suffolk

BECCLES.
Strange Case - On Friday evening Georgiana Webb, whose husband has been dead about twelve months, was met by relative named Frederick Rouse, in Bridge Street, carrying a parcel. Rouse asked her where she was going to, and she replied '‘to Lowestoft", then Rouse aked her what she had got in the parcel, her answer was "nothing". During some further converstion, the woman fainted away. Rouse caught her as she was falling, and on opening the parcel, saw the body of a newly born child.

14 March 1885 - Bury Free Press - Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England

Birth at Beccles
An inquest was held at Gillingham, near Beccles, Tuesday afternoon, touching the death of the infant child of Georgiana Webb, a widow, who was detected carrying the dead body in parcel, after frequently denying that she had had a child. Dr. Metcalfe stated that he had made a post mortem examination, and could not say whether the child had a separate existence, but he believed it died from neglect. The Jury returned a verdict of manslaughter against the mother, who is very ill.

30 April 1885 - The Ipswich Journal - Ipswich, Suffolk, England

Concealment of Birth
Georgiana Webb (34) charwoman, pleaded guilty to concealing the birth of her illegitimate male son, at Gillingham St. Mary, and was sentenced to a fortnight's imprisonment.
