Find Ancestors

I am looking to find the whereabouts of Mildred Sarah Tilney born Mattishall Norfolk, in the 1939 census. I think she died in Norwich in 1980. if you have this I would be most grateful if you could look this up for me.

Am not finding her -unless badly mistranscribed. Could she have been out of the country e.g. in the forces

the birth reg. shows born Q4 1910 which would fit a death reg. showing DOB as 14.10.1910

I don't know greyghost if she was out of the country. Don't know much about her. The family who I am checking this up for, said that the rest of the family didn't know much about her and thought she was shut away somewhere or sort of hushed up, maybe she had an illegitimate child maybe?

Well, I looked at all sorts of variants on name and birth year but obviously not just the right one - well done Austin, looks like you've got her a year out on DOB. No birth England and Wales for Mildred Tifney nor marriage Tifney to a Mildred.

Mildred seems to be the only person on the record so looks as if she was living alone.

Not many likely illegitimate births, in maiden name Tilney (see freebmd) only one in Norfolk at a possible date? so that may be unlikely.

Jackie - as you may be aware, the 1939 Register is pay-to-view for everyone. You can however register on Findmypast without subscribing and use the free search facility - that's what the people here have done.

There are work-arounds to find who else is in the same household. If you manage to find other relatives, we'd be happy to guide you through it.
