Assault by a Nottingham Soldier – At the Guildhall Nottingham today, before Mr F Acton and Mr E N Elborne, Arthur Selby alias Stenson, a collier, in the army reserve, who appeared in the court wearing three medals, was charged with assaulting Ada Willoughby, a girl of eleven on April 15th
Mr H B Clayton prosecuted on behalf of the police and Mr R A Young defended.
The accused denied the offence on oath and the magistrates had the charge reduced to one of common assault and fined defendant £2.

this one a collier ex-army

(I checked and neither name appears in the Imperial Yeomanry in the Anglo-Boer War)

army could explain why yours can't be found in censuses

possibility?
