Nicola

Nicola Report 6 Nov 2015 20:35

I am looking for information on Ronald Forbes. He was born in Marylebone London in 1917. He ended up being cared for by Dr Barnados at about the age of three I think along with his twin brother Gerald. It is after that we have no information for him.

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 6 Nov 2015 20:52

this is for our information:

Births Jun 1917
Forbes Gerald mother Jackson Marylebone 1a 788
Forbes Ronald mother Jackson Marylebone 1a 788

is this the parents' marriage?

Marriages Jun 1911
Forbes Roy Marylebone 1a 1293
JACKSON May J Marylebone 1a 1293

did his parents die, or become permanently unable to care for them?

Gerald is your family member, and he never knew what became of his brother Ronald, if I have the idea right?

so the boys were placed with Barnardo's after their mother's remarriage?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 6 Nov 2015 21:13

Do you know the boys' exact DOB, Nicola? do you have their birth certs?

On the face of it, this death could fit - but depends on the DOB:

Ronald Forbes
in the England & Wales, Death Index, 1916-2007

Name: Ronald Forbes
Birth Date: 9 Apr 1917
Date of Registration: Mar 1980
Age at Death: 62
Registration district: Exeter
Inferred County: Devon
Volume: 21
Page: 1100

Of course, if the boys were adopted after being placed with Barnardos, their names may have been changed.

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 6 Nov 2015 21:13

have you searched for Ronald outside Britain? if he was a home child sent abroad by Barnardo's

the Canadian government home children website says it is down for maintenance until Nov 6 ... which was today ...

have you investigated the possible deaths in the records?

do you know Ronald's actual date of birth?

Ronald Forbes born (no date) 1917 - died Jun 1975 Cambridge
Ronald Forbes born 9 April 1917 - died Mar 1980 Exeter
Ronald Stuart Forbes 1918 May 1991 Newcastle Upon Tyne Tyne and Wear

they match with the three births for that name (a birth registered in early 1918 could have been in late 1917)

Births Jun 1917
Forbes Ronald Jackson Marylebone 1a 788
Births Mar 1918
Forbes Ronald C Lodge Fareham 2b 199
Forbes Ronald S Rayner Newcastle T. 10b 226

your Ronald is the only birth that matches with a birthdate of April 1917

since you know about Gerald, you know what their date of birth was - whether it was 9 April 1917?

(ArgyllGran and I were thinking alike as I was looking around :-) )

Nicola

Nicola Report 6 Nov 2015 21:55

The twins were born the ninth of April. Roy Forbes died before the twins were born. They were the illegitimate twins of May Jackson and Sydney Dowson. May married James Cornwall before the twins went in to care.

Gerald Forbes is my great grandfather.

ArgyllGran

In that case, it would seem worth buying a copy of that 1980 Exeter death cert, to check parents' names.

EDIT:
Sorry, I meant informant's name, in case that gives a clue as to whether or not this is your Ronald's death.

JoonieCloonie Report 6 Nov 2015 22:52

Nicola, just to make it quite clear

this is the record of death of Ronald Forbes, born 9 April 1917, whose death was registered in March 1980

(edit - oops, ArgyllGran had edited her first post to include this, I see now)

Name: Ronald Forbes
>> Birth Date: 9 Apr 1917
Date of Registration: Mar 1980
Age at Death: 62
Registration district: Exeter
Inferred County: Devon
Volume: 21
Page: 1100

you can order the certificate here

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

there may be a family member's name and address on the certificate as the informant of death

there are several marriages for the name Ronald Forbes with no middle initial during the 20 years after he was of age to marry

the most likely would seem to be Colchester 1943, Surrey SW 1952 and Hackney 1953

once you have the death certificate it might be possible to identify a marriage and see whether he had children

You're welcome!
