My mothers mother was Mary Ann Armstrong. She had my mother out of wedlock in 1935. She worked as a domestic servant at Woodside Terrace in Glasgow. She had a sister Christina. In 1948 she married someone called Gilmour and I think she moved to Motherwell. My mothers given name was Ella Christina Armstrong. When Mary Ann married in 1948, she was listed as living at 1965 dumbarton road.
Seeking any information about Mary Ann who I think had a dtr Christina Reid Armstrong.

My mother was born in Carfin street in Glasgow in a house occupied by someone called J Reid.
Really trying to find who my mothers father was. I suspect it may have been the son of the house where Mary Ann worked, his name is Archibald Neville Mclellan who I think was an officer in the cameronians and at some point became a chartered accountant.
Would appreciate any info on Mary Ann

When she married the cert should say who her parents were

Al the info will be on Scotlands People which is pay to view

For the 1930,s you would have to buy certs through them as they aren't viewable online

Yup, I have her parents as Robert Armstrong and Mary Maclean, I've also traced back further than that and that name Reid keeps cropping up as well as forename Christina.

Really now trying to find out what happened to Mary Ann and after her marriage in 1948, were there kids that I could talk to.

This is the only birth of a Christina Reid Armstrong showing on ScotlandsPeople - but not in Glasgow area:

1913 ARMSTRONG CHRISTINA REID F HUTTON (BERWICK) /BERWICK 745/00 0004

Credits on SP would let you view the image of the document, to see who her parents were.

Unfortunately, as one can't use mother's maiden surname as a search term for records after 1854 on SP, it's impossible to know which, if any, of the many Armstrong or Gilmour births might be children of Mary Ann.

How old was Mary Ann when she married in 1948?

46 Mary Ann Gilmours died in Scotland 1948-2014, but none with previous surname Armstrong.
Of course, it may be that her maiden surname isn't listed on her death cert - it would depend if the informant knew it or not.

Just because it's worth a try -

have you tried Search all Members' Trees on GR? Click Search at the top of this page, then Search All Members' Trees.

There are no results for a Mary Ann Armstrong born Scotland 1918 +/- 2, but several for Mary Armstrong.

Not knowing where she was born (3 Mary Anns born various places in Scotland 1917-19 per SP - and lots of Marys), it's possible none of the results are her, but might be worth contacting the tree owners, just in case.

She was born in Glasgow, Partick or Yoker if memory serves, her father was a riveter holder on, shipyard worker. I have quite a lot already from Scotland's people, was hoping I might hit s family connection here
