well, that's always the case, Potty :-)

we never know whether any poster knows how to get back to their thread

If the poster doesn't know how to get back to his/her threads, he/she is unlikely to see this. I will send a PM.

and that, checking 'My Threads', is how you find the message you posted, to go back and reply to people who have offered help :-)

as my 'Researching' line says, it is also wise to click 'Watch This' on any threads you start, by posting a question, because then you will get email notices of any replies

(as long as you keep a current email address in your account here)

you may never have seen the replies in the thread Rosemary Rose linked to, if you expected to get an email notice of them, as many people do

you can go to that thread now and add to it, if you have any more info or want to revive the question or just thank the people who replied ... and that will bring the thread back up to the top of the board for others to see now

keeping track of one's threads this way means not starting new threads about the same thing, as people unfortunately do, which means new people doing the same research and asking the same questions and making the same suggestions as others have already made ...

For example: This is a thread you posted years ago, you can click on the turquoise lettering to view it

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1235417

On the left in the menu, under "Tools" you can see a ' My Threads' you can click on that at any time to see threads you have started or participated in. :-)

It's when someone starts a topic on a website and others add their own comments .
