Can you give ALL the details from the marriage certificate please. And still need to know how you got back to Henry and Eliza in 1881 as that census has Henry as a General Dealer

Surname First name(s) Spouse District Vol Page
Marriages Dec 1912 (>99%)
Taylor Henry Fitzgerald Bethnal G. 1c 382

My grandad, Henry Taylor, married Sarah Fitzgerald 8/12/1912 and I have the original certificate. It states the grooms father is Henry Taylor, deceased, occupation Hackney carriage driver. Address was 3 Princes Court. The family have all gone now so no one to ask unfortunately but I do believe they all came from the east end of London.

How have you got back to them Karrie - if you tell us all you know, then we may be able to help further.

If Henry wasn't his first name, then there are more possibilities.

Pancras and Bethnal Green are only about 3 miles from each other - this is the only marriage in the area, but if it was Eliza Frances, then she has knocked a couple of years off her age by the 1881 census

Taylor is such a common name and I have nothing else to go on right now :-(

Snap Kath - FMP is a real pain at the moment. I keep closing it down and re-opening and at least get somewhere!

Henry may not have been born Bethnal Green either I suppose - not finding the family at present in 1891

I'm not sure that either of the two births I posted above are "your" Henry as I have found two Henry's born 1885 and 1886 in the 1891 census in Bethnal Green and neither have Henry and Eliza as parents, so don't buy these certificates until you have more evidence.

Sorry, I'm having too much trouble opening images on Findmypast to be able to look up anything at the moment. I'll have to leave it.

The Ince and Bird families are at the same address but on different schedules - and are dittoed for Middlesex, Bethnal Green (ignoring the Wales Llanelli on the line directly above them)

If the birth of their son Henry in 1885 was in Bethnal Green then there are only two possibilities:-

First name(s) HENRY
Last name TAYLOR
Birth year 1885
Birth quarter 3
Registration month -
Mother's last name -
District BETHNAL GREEN
County London
Country England
Volume 1C
Page 261

or:-

First name(s) HENRY
Last name TAYLOR
Birth year 1885
Birth quarter 4
Mother's last name -
District BETHNAL GREEN
County London
Country England
Volume 1C
Page 265

The birth certificate would give his mother's maiden name.

Ince and Bird are on the 1881 census at the same address and the birthplaces are the same ie Wales. Cook is a surname that I remember being banded about and thought it was that side of the family. They definitely had a son called Henry born 1885 but no idea how many others.

Have you found them on any other census? Did they have any children? Where have you got the three possible maiden names from?

Oops, the names were Henry and Eliza Taylor

Karrie Report 1 Nov 2015 16:55

I've found them on the 1881 census at 43 Brady street, Bethnal Green. He was 30 and she was 20. She was born in Wales. But I can't find their marriage or her birth. Her maiden name could have been Cook or Ince or Bird but this is a guess. Know there isn't much to go on but can anyone help.
