Thank you all...now entered up.

Can't find out what happened to John and John Jnr (White)

Nor when they left Australia for UK - was it before they departed Glasgow?

Was John jnr born in Australia or UK? Guessing Australia because I don't find them 1851

But ultimately...this is periphery :-)

Answering in some sort of order...

Mel..."You sure about that??" - not sure what you are asking but that is her death - I have the will.

Gins - yes those are they - I have both wills.

Margee/AustinQ - bravo! I think you have cracked it! So only missing thing is a death for John White in USA I guess. So a child I did not know about (John Jnr) and the P. Slade in the census is her sister Penelope

Malyon - yes I have everything there is to know about James. The 1841 census you post is not the correct one...

This is the correct one

Name: James Slade
Age: 60
Estimated birth year: abt 1781
Gender: Male
Where born: Wiltshire, England

And if you look at the image John and Selina White are living there as well.

Now I have a better handle on the timings I can look for her coming back to England between 1857 and 1859

Thanks all - once again :-)

Jude

HeyJudeB4Beatles

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 25 Oct 2015 09:09

Selina married my widowed great great grandfather James Ames Marchant in November 1859 just six months after my great great grandmother, Maria, died.

I am trying to fill in some gaps - I do not need any other info. I am not sure if these "gaps" came up in another thread - have looked but can't find it!

She was born 02 May 1821 (reference: b 2 May 1821 wife of James Ames Record source:Wiltshire Memorial Inscription Index) - father James Slade

She married John White on 15 Apr 1840 at St James' Trowbridge,Wiltshire,England (ref England select marriages)

In 1841 census she is living with her husband and her parents in Charlotte Street Trowbridge.

On 10 January 1842 she and John arrived in Sydney on the Duke of Roxburgh. They appear to have chaperoned her sister Harriet and her fiance Walter Kington. They joined her other sister Melissa who was already in Australia (two years earlier).

And that's the last I have of her until she married in Bath on 05 November 1859 to my great great grandfather. Her address on the marriage was 28 Charles Street (assume) Bath.

The witnesses were John Phillips (her brother-in-law) and Nathaniel Roach.

Her status was widow but she married as Selina Perkins.

So:

When did John die (if he did)?

Did she marry a Perkins who also died?

I cannot find her and/or John returning from Australia. I can't find her and/or John in 1851 census (if she/they did return)

Probably all forlorn but would be good if any morsel could be found!
