The Sutter family tree has the OPR of William's death:
died 23rd Jan 1852; buried 25th Jan 1852; Residence: Scott's Close, Dalkeith:

I can't make out the Headings over the next 3 columns but in the next 2 is:
Alexander Paterson Collector of Poor's Moneys and in the 3: In the Widow; Cause of death is Decline of Nature; William described as Pensioner.

Thanks Potty. Unfortunately looks as if William died between 1851 & 1855 when Scottish registers began. I know he was a pauper on 1851 census. Margaret must have died between 1841 & 1851. Can't find anything about this pair on Scotlands People either. Not many seem to be researching my tree.

One tree on Ancestry does have Alexander's death, confirming the parents you give, but no grandparents shown. William's death is given as 1852 and Margeret Flemings as "before 1877",but no sources given.
