I can't believe the prompt, knowledgable responses. You folks are geniuses--- thanks a bunch. I have another problem, but will wait until I can compose a clear query. It's complicated.

there is only one entry on the Electrol Roll for Killebrew
http://www.192.com/all/search/
Its pay to view & not on any free site.

Genes show only 5 births with this surname since birth registration became compulsary in 1873ish. They range from 1974 to 1987 and are probably 2 families.

3 marriages since 1837 to 2006, and those were in 1975, 1988 & 2000

No deaths to 2006.

It seems very much as if either line died out, the name changed or the original holders moved to another country. Scotland has its own record site
http://scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

Free results for the exact spelling show
Census 1911 1 match
Statutory Register Marriages 1855 - 2014 Female 1 match
Old Parish Records Births & Christenings 1538 - 1854 2 matches

You'd need to purchase credits to view, but again you come up against the ;missing link'.

Welcome to the boards Kate

Don't get hung-up on the spellings. Dialect and individual clerks make a difference. Remember that Shakespeare spelt his own name several different ways....and he was literate!
Many parish records aren't on line. They've been lost over the years, become undecypherable, or not lodged with the appropriate archive.

Have you searched the Cornwall on-line parish clerk data base/
http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/

May be you need to look to Ireland?
1851

Name: Robert Killebrew
Age: 42
Estimated birth year: abt 1809
Relation: Head
Gender: Male
Where born: Ireland
Civil Parish: Bristol St Augustine the Less
County/Island: Gloucestershire
Country: England

There are more recent Killebrew BMD., but mainly from the mid 20thC.

Kate Report 17 Oct 2015 19:09

I am a Killebrew in the US and have traced the name back to Francis K, b 1619 in Cornwall, with no antecedents. There are Killigrews in England, to whom I would love to be descended (colorful folks)--but no Killebrews. All links include Francis and no one else.

Anyone have any clues?

Thanks!
