I am hoping someone may be able to answer the following query. The above named lady of Weaver Hall, London Road, Northwich, Cheshire. Died July 1960. Leaving £1093 3s and 6d. My query is with this amount of money why would she be living in a place described as a workhouse.

Thank you

Workhouses as such were abolished in 1930. Could it have been a hospital (what many workhouses became) or old peoples home?

The workhouse later became Northwich Poor Law Institution and was subsequently used as an old people's home until 1964. Only the front part of the workhouse buildings now remain and are now the home of the Northwich Salt Museum.

I would agree with others that the workhouse served as a hospital.
