Thanks again the second answer about the seaman's ticket could be my James Drummond as I believe he was living in Sunderland at that time

My james was born in Whitby 1819 to James and Mary another James was born also 1819 to a John and Mary. (they could even be cousins born to 2 brothers) My James moved and married in Sunderland then lost his wife in 1850 and he then disappears off the census. I was just wondering if he had returned to Whitby

Who did your James marry?

There's a tree on Ancestry but I think it's the other James because it shows his parents as John & Mary. This James married Ann Elder then Ann Boult Jackson.

Another tree shows James born 1819 Whitby, married to Ann Elder but it shows his parents as James Drummond & Mary Husband.

I'm thinking it's best to ignore the trees on Ancestry. Another says he's son of James & Mary and married Ann Boult Jackson but it gives 3 different dates of the marriage, 1842, 1851 and 1857!!!

Hi Margee James who married Ann Elder is the son of John as a later census if I remember has Ann living with in-laws John and Mary.Ann died and he did remarry to Ann Boult.
Can anyone confirm the actuall address on the census found by Andrew above was it 73 Church Street
It has been a wile since I contacted the tree owner about James and Mary's son James who married Mary Greenwell in Sunderland 1845 as I have the marriage certificate with fathers name being James and the James who married Ann Elder his father is John.

There is no house number on the 1851 census, just Church Street. The number 73 was not the house number it was the number of house holder's schedule that the enumerator used.

Interestingly my gt. grandmother (wife of my avatar Thomas Turnbull) was born Church Street, Whitby. I have no house number. I wonder if perhaps it was a butcher shop as her father was a master butcher.

It appears that the family living in church street is the family of James son John and not my family
The first thread hi-lighted is my original search.some of which is my family some not
The second thread is about my James's brother William and his 2 marriages
The marriage of Jane above is from the family who lived in Whitby and not the family that moved to Sunderland around 1825
Thanks for everyones help It was that 1851 census I needed checking .
