please check your dates. Born 1911, married 1914. One of them is wrong.

EDIT. basic search on Scotlands people. Marriage is 1947 in Fife. You need to buy credits to see the details.

Andy posted it as 1947. Not 1948

You can purchase a copy of the both certs from Scotlands People

Free search on Scotlands People http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
shows 1 birth of a William Stewart in THORNTON, Fife in 1911.

If you buy credits for Scotlands People they are £7 for 30.

1 credit will give you the above details and the opportunity to view the birth certificate (see below) with all the further information it will hold i.e. date and exact place of birth and mothers full name details and maybe the person who registered the birth will be a relative. Unfortunately from the start of official registration in 1855 you can't search for births within a marriage by using mothers maiden name.

Birth certificates can be looked at and downloaded at the cost of 5 credits if over 100 years old, marriages 75 years and deaths 50 years. But if too recent, the certificate reference numbers are available in the search and the certificate itself can be ordered through the site (£12 unfortunately).

You will also be able to pay to view the 1911 census which is not available elsewhere and to see the details from the originals of earlier census when transcription only is available on commercial sites.
