have I got myself into an awful mess ?
1881 - John Smith 47 b chapel end, nuneaton
Lydia R 42 and children William 16, Richard 12, Hannah H 9,
Christopher 7 and Henry W 4

1871 - John Smith (51 on census but writing unclear)
Rebecca 30 and children Sarah Jane 8, William 6, Mary 4,
and Richard 2.

1861 - John Smith 27
Rebecca 27 and Richard Wilson 8 wife's brother. (Marriage John Smith
and Rebecca Lydia WilsonRebecca b1838 Nuneaton F William M Sarah

1851 (John Smith as abiove at home before marriage)
John Smith 40 n. Nuneaton
John son 17
Sarah 13
Hannah 11
All above census were Nuneaton residences.

Then

1841 John Smith 30
Hannah wife 25
John son 7
Sarah dau 3
Hannah dau 1

I then looked for Rebecca Lydia in 1851 before her marriage:

1851 Abbey St Nuneaton
William Wilson 43
Sarah 38
Mary 21
Lydia R 12
Alice 10
William 11
Anne 2
Joseph 3 mths

1841 Abbey St Nuneaton
William Wilson 30 ??
Mary 11
Ann 5
Lydia 2

I have been unable to find the marriages for John Smith and Hannah ? or William Wilson and Sarah ? - unfortunately all being such common names. Also a wife for William Wilson seems to be missing on 1841 census - is Sarah his second wife ??

My big problem is - as Rebecca Lydia/ Lydia R seems to use either name, have I in fact got the correct person? Is Rebecca Lydia and Lydia R one and the same or two different people?

Thank you for having the patience to ready through this. Any thoughts/opinions would be welcome.

Margaret, where have you been looking for the marriages of John & Hannah and William & Sarah, as they're obviously pre 1837 going by children's ages on 1841 census.

Forenames do interchange so she could be one and the same - what certificates do you have for confirmation?

I have looked for the marriages on Ancestry - Warwickshire Parish Records but could only guess roughly what year going by the ages of their eldest children. Unfortunately I do not have certificates as I can no longer afford to keep purchasing them. I would love to purchase more certificates but it is not possible to buy them all. Thanks for trying

Thank you so much for your replies. Unfortunately my computer 'died' and I have had to have it seen by an expert and it changed from XP to Windows 7 so have been unable to answer you. Thank heavens I had backed up my family tree to disc because it has been lost with everything else !! . It is nearly back to normal now so hopefully I won't have any more problems. Apologies for the delay in replying.
