Oh, of course yoy're right, ArgyllGran. I don't know what I was thinking, I have a couple of great grandfathers born 1848 and 1849. Actually my avatar is 1848.

Two of my gr-grandfathers were born 1844 and 1846 - and I'm still in my sixties..

I question the fact that your gt. grandfather was born 1840. That's 175 years ago. Surely you're missing a few greats?

Trying to trace the Perrie line. My g grandfather was John Perrie b c1840 Scotland and migrated to Ballarat. His parents were Thomas Perrie and Janet White. Thomas was born around 1815 in Scotland as was Janet. Any help would be gratefully received as I have not been able to find any other information.
