Rosanna Davis 1906 -1944

Gaynor Report 10 Oct 2015 13:37

Hi there
I am trying to find out more about a Rosanna Davis, She married Arthur H Holpin on the 3/7 1926 in Thornbury, Gloustershire, She was 19 years old so she was born in 1906/1906 - where I am not sure, she also couldn't write as she just made her mark

She moved to Wales with Arthur and I have their children. I have a record of a Rosanna Holpin dying in Bedwelty Wales ( where they lived) in 1944. The marriage cert. says her father was a George Davis ( deceased ) who was a Collier ( I assume a pit worker) I can not find any other details - birth or census record for my Rosanna - any help? She did not have a occupation on Marriage cert so not in service at the time

The is another Rosanna Davis in Thornbury but she married someone else and and I even have looked at other spelling ( of Rose and Davis/Davies) and Rose Hannah ( as she could not write the vicar may have spelt her name wrong and she would not know,

So I am trying to find a record of a George Davis with a daughter called Rosanna born around 1906/07

Maddie

I also have a Rose Hildegarde Holpin who was born in 1910 in my tree ( Arthur's sister who I thought was the Rose H who died in 1944. However if Arthurs wife was a Rose Hannah and not a Rosanna - I may have got them confused.

Hi Maddie -

the reason why I did not go for Rose Hannah is that here farther George Joesph died in 1936.

On my Rose/Rosanna's marriage to Arthur in 1926 it says here farther was deceased so my George Davis died before 1926.

Think this one will be a bit of a struggle

Mike

That's my Arthur :) I have no problem with his side of the tree, it's his pesky wife Rosanna that is giving me grief :(

Arthur moved from Thornbury to Wales and worked in the pits, when Roseanna/Rose died he married her carer Evelyn,

I am doing the tree for Arthur's Grandaugher.

Thanks for looking everyone,

Gaynor

Gaynor Report 10 Oct 2015 15:26

Not very clear i'm afraid they were both residence in Thornbury at the time. One witness was Hilde Cole and the other looks like it is Florence Whixxxxxxxx

Yes I did look at this but can not find the link, the Holpin's were in Thormbury and the Cole's in Wales at the time Arthur wed Roseanna. I can only think there is something ' odd' here. As Roesanna could not spell her name she could be a Davies, called Rose, Rosina or anything else which is similar ( she was diffinately known as Rose as I have that from the famliy - but they know any more about her). or prehaps married without consent?

Gins - this could be a possibility ! Rosie could have been staying with friends/family or in service in Gloucestershire - where she met Arthur. Because after they married they moved to Bedwellty where Arthur worked down they mines. This has certainly been one of the hardest bits of a tree I have worked on.

Thanks for you help

Gee

Gee Report 10 Oct 2015 18:03

It might be worth buying a birth cert for one of the children of Ros* & Arthur to check what she calls herself
