I can't find a birth/baptism for him In Exeter in the right year so far - just wondering if anybody has any ideas.

MY family - are the Mary and William Holloway with Children called Ellen, George, Jane and Maria (1851 - Mary is transcribed as May) I have the baptisms of these children which confirms address as Alphington Street, Exeter.

I am trying to see if the poor lad Transported is connected somehow -and whether he ever came back.
If anybody has any ideas I'd be grateful/

His convict record is on line here

https://linctas.ent.sirsidynix.net.au/client/en_AU/names/search/results?qu=william&qu=holloway&qf=NI_INDEX%09Record+type%09Convicts%09Convicts

He was a bad lad!
Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any hint as to his parents' names. though his age is confirmed since he was 16 in 1838.

It is a common enough name, and it's quite obvious that the W.H. transported in 1836 is not the same one as on the 1841 census.

Hi

That conviction record you posted has William as:

Residence: 13 Nov 1836 - Chatham

I doubt he is your family, they were in Exeter

(google search can be useful for Convicts sometimes, looks like that one left on Frances Charlotte, for Van Diemen's Land)
