Eringobragh1916 Report 21 Sep 2015 11:15

I have found Thomas Reay b1862 Wigton livng with brother James Reay b 1855 Dornock and niece Jennie Knox on 1911 Census transcript as living 41 Buddle Street Wallsend the actual image shows the address as 41 Evelyn Street Wallsend.

Which address would be the correct one...????

I cannot locate either brother on 1901 Census but have all them on all previous ones

On Ancestry, its possible to click to see the next image. That has the form's Cover/Schedule sheet.

The form asks for the *Postal* address.
Mind you, the address section on the main census form also asks for the Postal Address!
The hand writting is different - possibly the Enumerators? That is given as 41 Buddle St, Wallsend.

Sometimes a collection of houses eg Villas are numbered seperately but are within a named road. Could that have happened here?

Thank you to all who answered my query....

Anne Cardiff...Thank you for the info.on Jennie Knox...she is new to me and I wondered how she fit in as Niece to James and Thomas....none of their sisters married a Knox but that's for another day...!!!

The 1881 Census is the family Wallsend....

+++Detective+++

I had a look on FMP (Freeweekend) and the images before and after were for Buddle Street but I think you may be right as the further forward I went the more I noticed Street names were different on the signature part but all the Streets are located in the same area of Wallsend.

Looking through other completed forms, prior to and following on from your family a number seem to give addresses as both Albert Terrace or Buddle Street and Evelyn Terrace or Buddle Street. Some are given as Back Buddle Street, others have been left as Albert or Evelyn Terrace. There's also a Wooley St thrown in!

I did start earlier but was interrupted. It's cold and wet here and I'm bored so -

The numbers do seem to run concurrently whatever the name, so looks like a couple of terraces within a street.

Gerald Street comes before
5 Buddle Street
9 Buddle Street then maybe a cross street as it jumps to
21 Buddle Street
23 Albert Terrace
25/27 Albert Terrace, Buddle Street
29 Buddle Street
31 Albert Terrace, Buddle Street
33/35-7 Buddle Street
41 Evelyn Terrace
43 Buddle Street
No address given
47 Evelyn Terrace
49 Buddle St
Nos 51/53/55 Evelyn Terrace or Buddle Street
Nos 57/59/61 Evelyn Terrace
No 1 Gerald Street
? No Buddle Street
No 1 Wooley st
No 1 then Nos 10 through 42 evens are written as a mixture of Buddle St and Back Buddle St
After Buddle St comes Denham Terrace

AnneCardiff...Don't do this to me...!!! But many thanks nevertheless..

Have spent most of the afternoon trying to connect the relationship "Niece" to Jennie and the Reays the odd thing is the wife of John Knox.. Mary SL Braidford (or Bradford) is Mary Stewart Lowingham Bradford what a mouthful....
The Reay maternal line is Stewart but that doesnt seem to be the connection as MSL Braidford Knox parents were John Braidford and Mary Ann Hull/Hall.

Back to the Knox side of things...

Eringobragh1916 Report 21 Sep 2015 15:17

On the track of Amy Reay...!!!

Incidentally "My" Reays...lived down 7th Street 1891 Census.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 21 Sep 2015 15:34

which is where the Reay's lived :-D

Eringobragh1916

Eringobragh1916 Report 21 Sep 2015 18:33

Thank you Ann...Its not funny !!
The Reay family and their offspring have caused me grieve for years... The Reay's Stewarts and "Knox" families were some how interlinked as Wm Stewart Muirhead (Dornock )nephew of Thomas and James by their sister Janet Stewart Reay died in WW1 and listed "Polly Knox" as his nok...He was living in Canada and she was living in Wallsend..
What a tangled web they wove.

How You doing...?

Well its them damned Reays again..they (the family ) must have lived in every house in Wallsend...Found Tom and James by sheer chance..if I am honest I wasn't even looking...Wonder why none of the men other than Joseph (eldest brother and my gt grandfather) never married... their Deery Bros in Law other than Tom didn't either mebbe there wasn't enough women to go around at the time..!!!!
