There seems to be only one piece # for the London Rd subdistrict of Manchester RD, viz:

Reference: HO 107/2228
Description:
Registration District: 473. MANCHESTER (Street Indexed) Partly decayed Registration Sub-District: 3 London Road Parish: Manchester (part) Hamlet: Manchester(3)
Note: Divided between HO 107/2155, 2218-2232 & 2234-2235; Transcriptions of unfilmed Decayed Census Returns are available on the Surname Index with Census Indexes on microfiche at The National Archives

"Decayed" is the code word the NA use for the water-damaged bits of the 1851 census.

I couldn't find them in 1851.

I've tried searching fro one or other of the children using just their forename, birth year +/- 2 and birth place, with parents' forenames and even one or 2 siblings .................... thinking that either Crook had been misspelled or mistranscribed, or they had been given the wrong surname as sometimes happened

nada

it must be something to do with the missing pages.

If he didn't marry Hannah Kay until 1863 then isn't the Hannah on the 1861 census Hannah Pinnington? Her death must be somewhere between census day in 1861 and the marriage in 1863, or am I missing something?

I admit that I wondered if Hannah was a second wife.

But I found that Cornelius and Richard's mmn maiden name on lancs opc was Pennington

is this William and Hannah's marriage?

Possible with grandparents. Ages are very difficult to read, I think grandfather is 60 something.
