According to a tree on Ancestry, Frances Fletcher died in Brisbane in 1931 in Queensland, Australia.

There is this arrival:

Name: Mrs Fletcher
Estimated birth year: abt 1857
Age: 57
Arrival Date: 2 Nov 1914
Arrival Port: Brisbane, Australia
Departure Port: London
Ship: Orsova
Nationality: British

On the image the entry is for Mrs Fletcher and Miss Fletcher, aged 26. Could that be Edith travelling under her aunt's surname?

Dea

Dea Report 16 Sep 2015 10:05

Looks highly likely MC as they had lived together for all those years and I don't believe that Frances had any living children ?

She must have come back if she was the one who died here in 1970 but I can't at the moment to see her returning.

I really do not think that the 1970 death is her at all. It is highly likely the other West Ham woman.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 16 Sep 2015 10:16

Here she is!

Name: Edith Louise Holley
Gender: Female
Electoral Year: 1926
Subdistrict: Gympie
State: Queensland
District: Wide Bay
Country: Australia
Residence Address: Deep Creek
Occupation: Home Duties

Aunt Frances is also in Deep Creek, Gympie

John's not the only one confused by the two Ediths -

a tree on Ancestry has all the details of the Somerset family, but gives the Redbridge death for Edith.

It also says she married Alfred (no surname) - no proof given.

The Edith who died in Redbridge died as Holly / Holley - presumably unmarried.

So it's the Somerset Edith who went to Australia who may have married Alfred?

ArgyllGran Report 16 Sep 2015 11:58

Edith in 1928 (she's not "Mrs" - that 's a mistranscription):

Mrs Edith Louise Holley
in the Australia, Electoral Rolls, 1903-1980
Name: Mrs Edith Louise Holley
Gender: Female
Electoral Year: 1928
Subdistrict: Gympie
State: Queensland

Address: Mrs Bell's, Channon Street.

Thanks everyone. The 2 dead are twins and they lived for 1 month. Edith was still alive at the 1911 censor and one other was living at the place of her work. All I need is confirmation that the Edith Louise Holley who was at Claybury is the same person as stated on the Birth cert.

Thanks John Holley.

John, can you just read through below items, don't you think that Birth date given at Death, belongs to other Edith perhaps...

Unfortunately we haven't uncovered more on your Edith Louise in Australia, but other info. is very good so far...

(and, for your confirmation question, No, would say not her!, and if still in doubt to perhaps get the other Edith Birth Cert.)

Chris :)

I don't think there is any doubt that the Edith Louise in Australia is the correct one, the problem is where did she go after 1928?

As her aunt died 1931 might she have got an inheritance that enabled her to travel elsewhere? Going by the Electoral Rolls, Edith Louise worked in hotels/guest houses - have looked for clues there but no joy. (She's not the Edith Louisa Roberts at the Appollonian Hotel, Gympie on the 1936 ER with husband Percy Emanuel Roberts - that woman was born Edith Louisa Ferguson in 1903).

Aunt Frances Elizabeth Fletcher lived with her nephew Frank on the ERs (he's Frank Alexander Fletcher, born c1884 Cockermouth to her sister Annie Freeman Annetts (who also seems to have married a different Henry Fletcher!)).

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 18 Sep 2015 08:43

Have followed Frank (guess he'd be Edith Louise's cousin).

He died in 1936. He's on the 1934 Electoral Roll:

Name: Frank Fletcher
Gender: Male
Electoral Year: 1934
Subdistrict: Gympie
State: Queensland
District: Wide Bay
Country: Australia
Residence Address: Deep Creek
Occupation: Timber Getter

I scrolled through the pages of the ER to the H's and Edith Louise Holley is still there at Mrs Bell's, Channon Street - yet can't get her on any searches, even allowing for bad mis-transcriptions.

Frank dies in 1936, he's still recorded in 1936 at the above address but Edith Louise is no longer listed.

So, there was some life event circa 1935 for Edith Louise - marriage, death, relocation?

MC, did look at Mrs Bell the other night, Clara Belinda, Death 1949 Queensland, on ER 1928 as 'Clerk'...
