Glad your mum is pleased.

It is wonderful when you manage to 'put flesh on bones', so to speak. It makes it so much more real to read about day to day things about your ancestors. Records are continually being added to these sites and it makes this hobby so much more interesting now.

Your poor grandfather asking for his nanny, I hope he had many fond memories of her.

just saw the baptism -oh Its like Christmas!

But she wasn't living in then -puzzling

I assumed as the Cook she would have lived in -and she was def still working at Fairfield House Alphington in 1905 when he was born -and again when she married in 1906 its given as her address. Maybe she was with her sister - Her family all came from that area -In fact if I recall her sister died in Melboune place in 1906 -will have to check my records!

thank you so much!!!!!!!!! this ties up all i have - he had his name changed to Strong

Think I may have to join FMP!!!

Thanks - I have just inherited the marriage cert -which was very interesting! (It mentions both Sargent and' known as Strong' too)Weknow that he sometime had his name changed to 'Strong' but didn't know his Mum had kept him for the first few months. She was unususally allowed to stay at the place she worked having had him at the toll house across the road. When he was old and ill he kept asking for his Nanny -which we didn't understand. It now looks like where she worked, they had a baby 6 months older than him - so maybe he was looked after by their Nanny for a while.

wow

My mum is so pleased!

These appear to be a new set of records included on fmp.

Devon Social and Institutional Records

This incredible record set contains a huge range of information about your Devon ancestors, including when and where they were married (and who to), where they lived, whether they received Poor Law relief. There’s also more niche detail such as whether they were admitted to – or discharged from – insane asylums, whether they received a smallpox vaccination, drove a hackney carriage, and even whether they were involved in a bastardy case! The collection was gathered by the Devon Family History Society from 127 sources covering local working and social life. Unusual record sets include Christmas presents for Exmouth children whose fathers were away fighting in World War 1, which lists details for the solders’ families.

I found out I can search for a vaccination record on fmp -
but just would love to see what it says about my Grandad. He was unofficiakly taken in and adopted sometime in 1906 -and it looks like this early record may be on there.

Reginald Sargent Exeter Devon St Thomas 1905.
Please can anybody have a look -is there anything other than his name? -if so then I'll take out a subscription accesses it -but don;t want to if nothing worth having! thanks for anyone who can check for me :-)
