Before I posted this thread, I had no idea who Ernest's parents were.

To be fair, greyghost, Tanya did say she was looking for "more" info on his parents, although I agree it would have helped if she had said she had their names and had given them.

Are you saying Tanya, that you already knew who his parents were? That info would have helped if posted initially, where you say you have no info pre 1930.

Kathleen, I think that is the same Ernest - the Ellis Island record gives date of arrival.

There is an image of Ancestry of the ship's manifest and it looks as if the whole family went together.

Described as a fishsalesman and employer his two eldest children were working in the fish indusry - John as a clerk in the fish sales business and Bessie as a clerk in a fish shop.

Do you have the marriage certificate - it should name his Father and give Father's occupation. Also it should give Ernest's age to compare with the DOB given on the death transcript - which is only as good as is known to the informant.

With his fathers name you should be able to find him on the 1911 Scottish census which is only available on the Scotland's People website. This is Pay as you go - £7 for 30 credits.

You will also be able to find his birth certificate on that website - there is only 1 Ernest Summers born Aberdeenshire 1906-1912. 1 credit will get you the bare details - year, name, County and RD in which born with the GROS Data. 5 credits and you will be able to see and download the certificate. This should amongst other details give his Father's name/occupation and his mother's including her maiden name and where/when they married and address where born.

Hello,
I am looking for information about my grandfather Ernest Summers. I have been trying to find out more about his parents, if he had any siblings etc, but I have not succeeded. My mother does not remember anything about her father's parents.
I have a bit of information about him.
He was born around 9th April 1909 in Aberdeenshire, Scotland and he died in 1971 in Surrey. He married Lorna Wilson in 1936, and had three childred David, Gillian and Penelope (my mother).
I have not been able to find out any information about him which is pre 1930.
