Eringobragh
Looking back at all my records I seem only to have 1851 as their marriage date as it is in several public members trees. However, when I have checked them all tonight, none of them have any citation records. If Gritty is right then it was actually Feb 1850 so they are all wrong anyway. I did ask Gritty where he found the record but he didn't get back to me. It sounds as if he found it in Catholic Church records somewhere but I can't seem to access any either through Genes or Ancestry.
Best regards

Katqueen.
.No apologies necessary ...If your anything like me your lucky to get on at all..
I would be looking at the RC records for Kilcoo which tends to cover FofanyR. and FofanyB.unfortunately the Marriages records start much later than you are searching... Where did you find the one you have...??

Using the details Gritty posted (30th Aug) it gives witnesses' as Edward Morgan and Patrick Cunningham..I have searched through the Kilcoo Baptismal Reg.and find the Morgans also come from FofanyrR. although the Morgans also can be found in other areas nearby..however there is an Edward Morgan and family listed for Baptisms from 1841..FofanyR.
I would suggest that Patrick Cunningham is probably a Brother or relative rather than Francis' father.

It does appear that the area of FofannyR is probably the correct place but until Primary Source confirmation is found I wouldn't assume anything...

Eringobragh. So sorry not to have responded before but I haven't been able to get on Genes for a few days. Thankyou so much for that very interesting information. It is too much of a coincidence to have Cunninghams and Loughlins in the same place for it not to be the ones I am looking for. Would you know where to look for any marriage references to Frances Cunningham and Rosa Loughlin that would show fathers names. The only one I have found is very smudged and although one of the witnesses appears to have been a Patrick Cunningham, there is no way of knowing if its a father or brother. Thankyou so much for your help.

Katqueen.

Looking at the Baptism for Patrick Cunningham posted by Gritty 30 August ..the Parish is given as Fofanny..that is not quite accurate
Fofannybane and Fofannyreagh (two separate "Townlands" although co joined) both lie in the foothills of the Mourne Mountains so the family would have come from one or the other....
I have checked and found the Griffiths Valuation of 1863 show the following which may be some help...
Tenants of the Earl of Roden

M'Loughlan Henry
M'Loughlan James
Cunningham Thomas
Loughlin Catherine
M'Loughlin Bridget

Henry M'Loughlan also showed on the 1776 Flaxgrowers List for Kilcoo which was the Civil Parish for Fofannyreagh.

I cannot see any Cunningham/M'Loughlan/Loughlin for Fofannybane.

Gritty. Can't find any reference to them anywhere. Could you tell me where you found this record please? Many thanks

Date is right and the reason I may not have found them is because somewhere along the way she seems to have lost the Mc. Will have a look on the public members trees on Ancestry with the Mc in front as it might bring up something fresh. Thanks so much.

Just reread and noticed that it does say upper Mourne for Francis so assume that is a district or town in County Down.

Thanks Gritty. There seem to be endless spellings of Laughlin but I would say it's definitely them. No way of working out if the witness Patrick Cunningham would have been Francis's brother or father. The baptism record for Patrick is the same year as I have for his birth so he is definitely one and the same. Now we have established that they both seem to have been from County Down are there any Irish records specific to there for census type records. Pity it doesn't give the address on the marriage info.

Thanks for that. It does lay it out much more clearly for people to look at than my garbled version. Hopefully someone will come up with some information for me.

katqueen Report 30 Aug 2015 17:19

I have been trying for some time to find information regarding the parents of my great grandfather and great grandmother both born in Ireland. His name is Francis Cunningham born in 1831 and she is Rose/Rosa Lochlen/Loughlin born in Down in 1835. They had 10 children---Margaret, James ,Catherine, Patrick, John, Rose, Francis, Hugh, Ellen and my grandfather Thomas born in Barrow in Furness in 1874 and died in 1951. All the others were born in Ireland or the Isle of Man. Does anyone have any Irish records that go back pre 1831 who might be able to help with the parents of Francis and Rose please. I know that Francis was Catholic but don't know about Rose. Thanking you in anticipation.
