Thanks Beverley, yes I have looked through from the earliest and can't find the marriage, I did find Robert Freeze and assume that may be Mary's brother. Freeze doesn't seem a common name over there. We did find one additional birth for them that we never had and that was John in 1836. Catherine is still a mystery as she is the second born I think and not on the lists.

The order we have is
Matthew 1832
Catherine 1834 (according to marriage cert)
John 1836
Margaret 1838
Denis 1841
Patrick 1843

Is there any way to tell what relation the sponsors were?

Thanks again Kerryn

After a very quick look through the marriages in Youghal Arra between 1828 and 1831 I can't see the one between Patrick and Mary, however there is a marriage for a Robert Freeze of Kelmore to Sarah Moloney in 1829, could possibly be a brother.

Kerrynk...Yes the naming pattern did follow as you suggest..but be aware that the first child you find may not actually be the "first born" this follows through subsequent births ...so using the apparent first born's name as an indication of the Paternal grandfathers name can cause problems unless you have the year/ date of the Parents marriage...eg Patrick and Mary married approx. 1830...could be 1828/1829 therefore time for at least 1 child to have been born before Mathew 1832...
Have you looked through the Marriage Registers.....??

one more question please. Do the irish name their children like the scottish? eg first son born named after his grandfather etc?

Thanks again Kerryn

Thanks for that, I have found 5 out of the 6 baptisms but cannot find Patrick and Mary's marriage unfortunately

The one who died in Massachusetts was 73, so the age isn't far out.
His father Patrick was a shoemaker.

However there's nothing to prove that it's the same man. there are other Mathew McGraths from Kildare / Ireland on FamilySearch.

that is interesting about Matthew, His sisters Catherine and Margaret definitely come to Victoria Australia. I wonder if it is him? Yes we have been looking for a marriage at that parish and only found the births and no marriages, was hoping someone could find a "Freeze" in Ireland somewhere. I don't think it would be a common name.

There are some records for Youghal Arra in the new collection of Irish Parish Registers

http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0759

You have to browse through as you can't search by name.

(IN the baptisms I can see Matthew baptised in December 1832).

hi

I am after any/all information on both Mary Freeze who married Patrick McGrath in Ireland in approx 1830 (don't know what parish they were married or born in). I assume they were both born early 1800's. They had 6 children and they were all born in Youghalarra Parish with Burgess as address. The first of these children Matthew was born abt 1832

Any help finding these two and their parents and marriage would be great.

Thanks so much Kerryn
