Hello,

I have followed William John Renshaw's life from his birth in Glasgow on 25th December 1895 to his life in Dublin. He then joined the Navy. His Service Number was SS5954. His first service date was 29th May 1915 and the first ship he served on was the Pembroke I. His last service date was 7th May 1925 and the last ship he served on was the Cyclops.

I can find no record of him after 7th May 1925. Would anyone be able to offer any advice as to how to proceed to try to find further details after this date.

Thank you.

Pat.

Have you found his actual service records

The later one may be at Kew and give details of if he went to another ship or left the service

Not seeing a death for him .perhaps he went back to Scotland after coming out of the merchant navy

Hello Shirley,

Thank you very much for your replies. It is good to have a lead on where he went. I doubt if it was Scotland, he left it as a child and went to Ireland, but I'll check it. He had no one left in Scotland but had a sister and father in Ireland. I can find no trace of him with them.

Thank you again I really appreciate it.

Pat.

There's no record of his having died in Scotland - per ScotlandsPeople.

A couple of possibilities - there are others - though not in Ireland - but no way of knowing if either of them is him without buying the cert.

I'm not really seriously suggesting them, but you never know.

Or perhaps he died abroad.

Hello again Gritty,

Yes that is William. There is a story behind what you have posted there. It is the reason I'm trying to find out what happened to him. I lost track of him after 1925 but "Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it" in one of her posts above has brought me to 1937.

Thanks for your interest.

I am William John Renshaw's daughter Molly Rose. The previous details are mainly correct. His siblings were Joseph and Christina.. The family lived in Dublin after leaving Scotland where the father was a bootmaker, married to Margaret my grandmother. My father William John Renshaw entered Chatham Dockyard during world war 2 and died at the age of 56 in Maidstone when I was 6. I am interested in locating Patrick as he may be a relative.
