RACHEL MCNAMEE AND ? BABICH

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

Kathryn Report 22 Aug 2015 11:44

Hi, can anyone help please. I have a Rachel McNamee who was born on 16 May 1918 and died in 1989. It appears she married Milorad Babich in Westminster 1954. I have tried to search for children of this marriage but to no avail. When I found Rachel's death I then found a death also in Ealing for a Nalorad Babich born 5 May 1906. I cannot find a birth for him either under either Christian name.

Is anyone able to shed any light on this couple please? I have also looked on the ER's but found nothing. As ever, another pair of eyes or two or three is always help. It may well be I'll have to send off for the certificates but of course if anyone can find anything it does save money.

Rachel had given birth to a child in 1947 and at that time she was McNamee. She had given her address as 16 Helston House, Kennings Way, Lambeth.

If anyone can assist in any way, then as ever, this will be much appreciated.

Kind regards

Kathryn

The surname Babich certainly sounds Slavic, perhaps anglicisation of Babic.

Birth in UK unlikely to be found if that's the case.

Might have immigrated during or after WW2?

They may not have had any children - not all couples do/did

Unless Babich was naturalised, he wouldn’t be entitled to vote

She’s still there in 1963 but with the addition of

Thank you for the information provided, it looks like I may well have to send off for the certificates. But as ever will keep trucking for now.

Neither seem to have entries in the Probate Calender either in the year they died or the one after. It might be worth checking yourself

There are 3 tabs - make sure you chose the middle one, 1858-1996! :-D
Even so, there doesn't appear to be an entry for either, but the pages may benefit from further scrutiny.
Up until 1996, the entries are filed in the year Probate was granted, not the year they died.

Hiya, thanks for that I was looking on the first tab, silly me, just rushing. Yes, again you're right I can't see anything under the name Babich. I have just found Rachel McNamee living in 1947 at Helston House, Kennings Way, Lambeth but nothing else on her under this name. Apparently when she gave birth in 1947 she stated that she was working at the Westminster Hospital as a Domestic. As the child was born out of wedlock no father's name was given. I do feel I will need to get the marriage cert but have looked again for a birth from the marriage but can find nothing. Rachel was 29 when she gave birth to the child in 1947 so in all probability she felt too old to have another once she married in 1954 albeit she would have still only been 36 so no great age.

I've checked the incoming passenger list to see if I could find Mr Babich. As we know there are various spellings of his Christian name but haven't found anything, not sure if he was born elsewhere if he would have come to England by boat though.

Thank you for your continued help.

Kind regards

Hi Malyon, thank you for your input. Not sure that this is the same chap although the spelling is one of a few Christian names we have for the chap who married Rachel. His definite birth date, well according to the death record is 5 May 1906.

You're not the first to fall into that trap, nor will you be the last :-D

maylon has found a birth with the same surname in Cook County, USA. There are a number of births for that surname in the UK, but none for 1905 or there abouts.

Hiya, I've just found a Rachel McNamee in the 1951 ER as being at the South Western Hospital, Landor Road, London. Would this mean that she was a patient there or if they had living accommodation for staff? Excuse my ignorance.

Kind regards

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 23 Aug 2015 15:04

Without looking at the image, she'd probably have been living there. They used to have Nurses Homes attached to hospitals.

EDit - although there are a few males, couples or families at the same address, the majority are females. It was probably 'living-in' employees, caretakers, medical or ancillary staff

In an earlier post you say "in 1947 she stated that she was working at the Westminster Hospital as a Domestic." which seems to fit with the ER

Hi, thank you for clarifying the position. Although I have been researching for sometime now overall (in general) there are still things that I'm not too sure about. As ever, thanks for your time and help.

Kind regards
