Looking for William Jackson lived at 14 High Street, Cheltenham and Old Spa. Gloster . His son was Henry Jackson Mottram who was convicted and sent to Australia in 1833.Henry was married to a Jane Wright, and they married in Wales. At time of deportation it shows Jane and their baby are living with William Jackson at above address. No record of her going to Australia. Rumour has that Henry was the illegitimate son of a woman called Mottram who was of higher social standing but was raised by William. Henry was born circa 1809. Family have all records in Australia but are interested in William, Jane and the child and family in UK. There is some indication that Henry was born in St Albans, but this is not confirmed. Thanks

Sorry, just posting this for Henry. He sounds rather a nasty character according to his gaoler!

thanks, I have the info above already - oddly on the marriage certificate neither henry or jane have their parents names, anyone know why this would be? I can find no birth record for him. He did rather well for himself in Australia after being released and then went off on the gold rush to the USA. I think the info he gave the courts etc is incorrect.

Vivien ...

it helps us the helpers to have the information that alviegal and argyllgran posted, otherwise we are looking without really knowing all the information.

If they married before 1837, it is not unusual to not find any information re fathers on the marriage certificate.

Registration began on July 1 1837 in England and Wales, and that is when register entries were standardised as the certificate had to be issued with certain information on them.

Mothers' names have almost never been on parish register entries or never on marriage certificates in England and Wales, and pretty rarely even on baptism entries before 1837 ............. and even then their maiden name is not often found.

You certainly will not find the information that you get on Australian certificates.

to further help us ................

what was the name of the child that Jane and Henry had

Did Jane use the surname Jackson OR Mottram?

Henry and jane married in Welshpool

In the absence of any information from you on the possible age of Jane, could this be her baptism???????????????

from ancestry .........

England & Wales, Non-Conformist and Non-Parochial Registers, 1567-1970

Name: Jane Wright
Birth Date: 22 Sep 1810
Birth Place: Welsh Pool, Montgomeryshire, Wales
Gender: Female
Event Type: Birth
Father: Thomas Wright
Mother: Martha Wright
Denomination: Baptist
Piece Title: Piece 1819: Shrewsbury, Claremont Street Meeting House (Baptist), 1766-1825

If this is her, it would make her about 23 when she married.

I posted this on the duplicate post, so just putting here now, even though of little use:

I can see an Edwin (25) and John (60) Jackson living on the High Street in 1841, but no house numbers are given to see if they are living at 14 High Street in 1841, or who is living there. (Neither are local).

I found a William Jackson on the 1841, but not on High Street, and no Jane there
