Thank you all so much. I really appreciate your help and advice and I will be looking at the sites you have kindly given me. I know the family were very poor and none of them, as far as I'm aware, could read or write because all of the certificates and documents I have managed to get so far have crosses on them for their signatures.

Regards,
Doreen.

Couldn't find the image for Whitfield - 1799 seems to be missing but this is another record from Ancestry:

Name:Ann Wilson
Gender:Female
Birth Date:24 Feb 1799
Baptism Date:25 Feb 1800
Baptism Place:Coniscliffe,Durham,England
Father:John Wilson
Mother:Elizabeth Miller

the image from that is there. Looks as if Joseph was one of at least 7 children, as he is shown as the 4th son and Ann is the 3rd daughter.

familysearch and freereg are free sites for baptisms & marriages; familysearch also has images of Bishops transcripts for Durham & Northumberland. There are no transcriptions - you have to page through the images. The link safc posted takes you to these images. If you then click on Durham (in blue at top of image), a list of parishes will come up.

There is this record from Ancestry for a possible brother for Joseph:

Name:Whitfield Wilson
Gender:Male
Birth Date:31 Dec 1798

Baptism Date:14 Jan 1799

Baptism Place:Coniscliffe,Durham,England
Father:John Wilson
Mother:Elizabeth Miller

Coniscliffe is in the list for Durham; click on it will bring up images which you can page through until you reach the year required. To speed things up, roughly calculate the page number for the year you want, enter that number in the box next to the word image and press go.

Many thanks. I think this is probably Joseph. As I don't have much experience in searching for births for Joseph could you please recommend which sites to look at for baptisms because there are so many and it gets really confusing.

Regards,
Doreen.

I am once again asking for assistance to try and find out how I can get a copy of the baptism of Joseph Wilson born 1801 at Cockerton, Darlington so that I can find out who his parents were. I have managed to get a copy of the parish records of his marriage to Elizabeth Martin. They married at East Cowton in Yorkshire in 1824 but there was no mention of his relatives at the wedding. I'm having problems finding out about his birth details and who his parents were and wondered if anyone can please help me move forward in my family search.

Many thanks,
Kind regards, Doreen.
