Hi,

I am interested in Matilda Harwood age is 17 on this 1861 census for Yorkshire, she is listed as a daughter in law but I cannot sort it out ?

Can anyone help with this please.

OK


for many years "daughter-in-law" was the name given to a STEP-daughter (or son-in-law for a step son.


Therefore,

Name Age
Jonas Crabtree 32
Martha A Crabtree 41
Matilda Harwood 17
Bryan Crabtree 6
Martha J Crabtree 5
Aquila Crabtree 3
Fred Harwood Crabtree 1


Matilda must be the daughter of Martha born before her marriage to Jonas

Note that the baby of the family is called Fred Harwood Crabtree .............. thus proving that Martha's maiden name was Harwood

I do wonder what happened to Bryan Harwood, the grandson in 1851. He's too old to be the Bryan Crabtree in 1861 ............. I wonder of the older Bryan died?

Nice to hear from you again, mmm, nice warm weather, ours is chilly and we even got a dust of snow last week plenty of rain as well but today is bright and sunny.

Not sure yet about this research, hope to carry on again tomorrow.
