Having with fantastic help, solved the long held mystery of his death. I wonder if anyone is able to help with a bit of a mystery of his marriage.

William (born 1793 in Hampshire - Froyle) father William Webster. Married an Elizabeth. I have quite comprehensive copies of parish registers in Froyle and he didn't marry there.

According to the 1851 Elizabeth was born in Bow Middlesex c1791. The only marriage I have been able to find was for William Webster to Elizabeth (looks like) Cain/Carn/Carns At St Math Bethnal Green the date is indistinct and is either 1810 or 1819. William would have been 17 and Elizabeth 2 years older.

I have the copy from the parish records which I think was sent to me by somebody on here who looked it up,. Sadly I can't remember who got it for me. many years back.

I wonder if there is any way of confirming this?

Thank you, so it is 1810. No absolute proof that it is my Elizabeth and William. And it doesn't really help to know where she was born as her family possibly moved, but it is a help to know the actual date.

Do you know how many children Elizabeth & William had and when they were born?

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 29 Jul 2015 13:26

Sarah Webster was born in Highgate in 1829, Anne Webster (my Great grandmother) was baptised in 1830 at Highgate Chapel (I have the baptism certificate). On her wedding in 1857 her age is given as 27 so born 1830 as well. her age is

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 29 Jul 2015 13:42

Thanks Anne. For years I (and my cousin) was misled when hunting for William and Elizabeth Webster in and around London. Unfortunately there are another couple with the same names and boy did we get confused trying to sort out children. It was ages before I manged to find my William in Hampshire. If you can give me the names of some of the other children I can confirm they were from the 'other' Webster family. (My William was a coachman and he died in 1832).

My concern about a Marriage in 1810 I would have expected a lot more children.

From your other Thread you mention Father was a Coachman and the family lived in Highgate

Mary Ann Bap 28 Aug 1825

Ah, LBelle, that is ringing bells. I think I know about George and Mary Ann. That is the trouble with leaving things for a few years at my age, the memory lets me down. thank you for that, I must search through all the paperwork I have and link them up. Ah, just looked, sorry, I do have Mary Anne and George, I have their baptism dates. sorry not to have told you that. Don't have any others though.

Ann Not sure about james, he might belong to the other gang but I will look, he would fit in with the year but he is not born Highgate.

Thank you Ann, I don't recognise the names but I need to maybe do a census search on them (not that I belong to FMP any more or Ancestry so it may prove difficult Lol!) to see if I can link them to the rest of the family, they certainly were not with their Mother in 1841 but the youngest in that batch would have been 16 then and probably in service somewhere. (My brain hurts now!) :-D

I can't find any other baptism in any other areas of London where the Father William is a Coachman prior to 1825.

Sooo I'm going to throw the cat amonst the pigeons and suggest that William & Elizabeth didn't marry until much later.

I have found this baptism in Bow, Middlesex

Name: Elizabeth Weshin (image is Wiskin)
Baptism Date: 13 Aug 1790
Born: 16 July 1790
Parish: St Mary, Stratford Bow
County: Middlesex
Borough: Tower Hamlets
Parent(s): Richard Weshin,
Ann Weshin
Record Type: Baptism
Register Type: Parish Register

and there is this Marriage

Name: William Webster Bachelor
Spouse: Elizabeth Wiskin Spinster
Record Type: Marriage
Event Date: 23 May 1825
Parish: St Marylebone
Borough: Westminster
Register Type: Parish Register

Witnesses are Wm Geo Paux & John Stamp (as Witnesses show on other Marriages as Witnesses it looks like they are professional witnesses)

Ah, London Belle, that sounds more likely I think. I was wondering how William would have married so young if, as I thought he had become a coachman learning under his father who also was a coachman. It was not impossible that he would have moved to London on his own and met and married at 17 but seemed pretty improbable., and with the first child being born in August 1925 it seems more likely doesn't it?
Well done for thinking outside the box. So William would have been 22 when he nmarried and Elizabeth 25.

thank you I will go with that.

Strange, I can't find George in either the 1841 or 1851 (using free census sites, And can't find Mary Anne in the 1841. Maybe I should check deaths in case they didn't survive. Although Elizabeth Langford talks about ALL your children which I think insinuates more than two.
