Ann thanks. I was given that the Burgess name was wrong from someone who had Elizabeth as a very distant ancestor ( from another page) and said it had been researched and put down to spelling error. Now I know this is wrong
I will be honest with everyone here. I am doing this as a favour and don't want to spend out too much on records. I was overwhelmed in less than 48 hours I had found nearly 200 ancestors, including some but not many living.. simply by researching one name. Australians seem very keen on genealogy and have great records. Am having to narrow down the more distant ones to keep some control over it and concentrating on direct lineage. Also would love some family background. You people are great, I had a lot of help doing my family tree which took months and months. Thanks so much

I am researching this family for a friend in Australia.

He is directly descended from Elizabeth Batcup ( sp) 1796 - 1887 circa. She married Henry Samuel Martin. Nov 8 1822. Records show her down as Burgess but this is incorrect at wedding.. They married in Sussex. They emigrated to Fremantle Australia August 20th 1843 on the Simon Taylor ship, with them were their children - Samuel MARTIN ......
MARTIN Harriet ......
MARTIN Mercy ......
MARTIN Eliza ......
MARTIN Elizabeth ......
MARTIN Frances
MARTIN Henry ......
MARTIN Alfred
Daughter Elizabeth marries Edward Charles Henry Turner ( this is my friend's direct link). Frances marries William Edward Syred - Alfred m Patience May - Eliza m Samuel Thornton - Mercy m William Webb - Harriet marries William John Gibbs.

We believe but not 100% that Elizabeth Batcup parents were John and Elizabeth. Salehurst comes up in some searches. Any info on the family before Elizabeth most welcome. Any details about the family in Australia also welcome. Father and oldest son Samuel at time of emigration were agricultural labourers.

EDIT - Sorry typo.. edited year of birth for Elizabeth
