are you sure that he died in Ohio the same year he married?

the entry 'Jansen Or Pattulo' would almost always mean she was divorced

it might mean that she was 'legally' Jansen as being the widow of Jansen but had reverted to her own name after his death, possibly, I suppose

someone here at GR has Ellen in their tree, are you in contact?

Other then applying from Johanns's death certificate ,yes Joonie we are as sure as can be. He was a sailor so it did not surprise us , OH remembers some of the Aunts comments about it ,. So I thought that I would find out to close this branch of the Patullo.

Would I be "pressing my luck" to ask .Did Johannus Bergis Janson marries in the USA as he was 90 with he died , And according to family he was a " Ladies Man" so I can't see him on his own Thank you Again. I don't have access to the US documents

JoonieCloonie Report 20 Jul 2015 05:56

I think the problem here is in your first post

'Johannus Bergis Jenson Born in The Netherlands in 1895 & died in Sandusky Ohio In 1929'

if he was 90 when he died he didn't die in 1929 :-)

90 would make it 1985?

so it looks as if there was a divorce at some point before Ellen's remarriage

also, the spelling really does seem to be JANSEN not Jenson or Janson, and spelling really does count for names

I don't see a record of his death at familysearch.org for instance (it has Ohio death indexes for the right period), or a marriage

There are very few Pattullo events in Liverpool, likely one family ... there were two Pattullo-Pattullo births just before that 1929 marriage ... might they be related to Ellen?

Ah, an Ancestry tree links to:

Johanne B Janssen in the Ohio, Deaths, 1908-1932, 1938-2007
Name: Johanne B Janssen (so much for spelling :-) )
Birth Date: 1894
Gender: Male
Race: White
Residence Place: Sandusky, Erie, Ohio, United States
Death Date: 15 Jan 1984
Hospital of Death: Firelands Community Hospital
Death Place: Sandusky, Erie, Ohio, USA
Certificate: 002163
Age at Death: 90
Certifier: Physician
Autopsy: Yes, used for certification
Social Security Number: 302-66-6696
Marital Status: Married

and finally familysearch finds it for me

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VKYT-22Y

but there is no image available either place

ah but Ancestry gives a link for ordering a copy of the obituary - have you done that? it would probably name family members

Sheila, divorce being against Ellen's religion would not have been a bar to *Johannes* obtaining a divorce especially in another country :-)

one would think that bigamy would be against her religion too! so I think you will find if you get her second marriage certificate that she is identified as 'divorced'

that really is what the format 'Smith or Jones' for a woman in the marriage index means

(a widow who remarries is normally identified only by her first married surname)

if divorce was against her religion then one would think remarrying after divorce would be too of course, but I suppose it was better than living in sin :-)

that is a good deal for the obit copy and I hope it tells you something interesting about his life!
