I am now trying to find the baptism of William Carrington who was also buried in Betchworth in 1800, he was given as being from Barking, Essex. I had assumed that his parents were Richard Carrington and Frances Mary nee Rose, daughter of Richard and Susannah Rose. I have tried a number of bmd sites, but cant find the baptism record.
Frances Mary died 1831 and Richard Carrington died 1835, both from Great Bentley, Essex. I believe there is a memorial inscription, but I cant get access to it from the site. If anybody can and let me know what is written on it, it may throw some light on on other family members.
Thanks, Sue

Hi
The will is for Susannah's husband Richard in which he leaves money to his children, the estate went to Sussanah and her brother Joseph. The estate in Dorking was to be sold withih 6 months of his death and Susannah was to live in property in Ilford. The land tax record is interesting in that Joseph was living in 1780 in property belonging to Richard, I will have to find out what it is. The Manor records for Dorking clearly give Richard dying in 1798.
CB 29 Oct 1798 Death of Richard Rose holding by copy and 1s rpa and £2 3s on alien. Bottomfield and 1 other close in customery adjacent 3 acres in total devising to Susanna his wife and Joseph Attersol all real estate to hold in trust via Captial messuage called Great House with the Coach house stabling buldings garden land ground etc on Butter Hill with several parcels of groiund near the Sandy Lane leading to Holmwood Common all which are now in occupation of John Mears esq or his under tenants to be sold as soon as possible or within 6 months of death. Susanna and Joseph admitted to Bottomfield and surrendered to John Meares
CB 29 Oct 1798 Richard Rose Richard Rose died and Susanna his wife ans Joseph Attersol have aliened capital messuage on Butterhill to John Meares esq.
I cant imagine he was not buried until two years later, so where is he??
Thanks, Sue

Hi Jennifer,
Sorry I don't have any record of your Elizabeth Rose and Henry Lee. Good luck with you research on them.

Hi Malyon,
Thanks for the info, I did have most of it but good to have confirmation. As to Richard being the other grandson, thought for a number of years that it was, but recently found his will he died in 1849. He had married Mary Rootsey and had a number of children including Richard Nottingham Rose, and they are listed in non-conformist registers.
Still cant find Susannah's husband Richard's burial, and think it might also be non-conformist but many of their registers are not available, but if that is the case why is Susannah not buried similarly.
I know more questions than answers.
Thanks, Sue

I don't want to hi jack this thread at all but I just wondered if you have an Elizabeth Rose that married an Henry Arthur Lee. She would have been born about 1836 - 1840 at a guess. They had a son also called Henry Arthur Lee born about 1856!!
Cheers
Jenny

Hope you find the family you are looking for :)

Hi
Thanks for getting the details from the Betchworth record, at least I now know Richard was from Dorking, not Betchworth or Ilford. It is a shame no age was given as that would have helped me sort out which Richard of Dorking he was, there were quite a few, but I thought I had traced them all.
So I don't suppose I will ever find out why they were buried in Betchworth all on the same day.
Strange thing also is that Susannah's husband Richard died in 1797/8, but I cant find his burial in Dorking or Ilford. His will was proved in 1798 so he definitely died.
Really appreciate your help. Regards, Sue

Unfortunately it doesn't give an age so we have no idea how old this man was or when he might have been born.
Richard Rose appears to be a very common name in Surrey.

Not sure what you are asking here. Are you looking for a baptism for Richard Rose?

Susan Report 5 Jul 2015 19:15

Richard Rose buried 10 Nov 1800, Susannah Rose and her grandson William Carrington buried the same day. Susannah and grandson were living in Ilford/Barking Essex as her husband also a Richard Rose had died in 1798. Assume they were visiting, had accident or something as all buried on the same day, but who was the Richard Rose?. It is assumed that her husband Richard had been born in Dorking as that is where they had lived until just before his death. His will gives Richard Rose formerly of Dorking, but now of Ilford.
Any suggestions or possible leads to this mystery welcomed.
