thanks, mgnv!

I found an interesting snippet last night .............. a ???? x cousin of OH was killed age 19 in 1942 in an accident in Nanaimo .............. an army (DND) vehicle overturned on Jingle Pot Road

Every time we go to Nanaimo, we either cross or drive that very same road! We know it well :-)

On a long-term basis, 1921 is free, but only via:
http://search.ancestry.ca/search/db.aspx?dbid=8991
[Don't let Ancestry bounce you to another of their sites]

I presume they just left the 1921 access as is for the freebie week.

for some reason, all other Canadian censuses except the 1921 will open during these free days on ancestry.

I can't figure out why the 1921 should be different? :-S

mgnv Report 29 Jun 2015 20:32

You'll already have most of this, but just in case...
[NB If you need the 1921 images, send me a private message, preferably containing your real email addy.]

Re your 1921 post:
One major function of N American censuses was to determine electoral seat allocations.
So, of course, Palling Div 2 should read Polling Div 2.

NB The left margin runs SW-NE going up the image.
Left concession is Conc 1 - coming down Diltz Rd, between Conc 1 & 2 - the Great Western Loop Line just nicks the corner of Con 2 Lot 15 - which part the Smiths were on, I don't know.
Conc 2 Lot 12 is split into 3 parts on this 1880-ish map (labelled Hodges, Michener, Mayer) - the Michener ditch forms part of the frontage of the lot along Diltz Rd.

Name: William David Gordon Pacey
Date of Birth: 10 Mar 1895
Gender: Male
Birth Place: York, Ontario, Canada
Father's name: Benjamen Pacey
Mother's name: Margaret Smith

Name: PACEY, WILLIAM DAVID

Date of Birth: 10/03/1895

[NB Dunnville is in Moulton Twp (in the SW corner)]

William was conscripted 12/10/1917 - this was early enough for him to see frontline service in 1918, and if not, he probably made it to Englandin 1918.
You'ld need to see his service record to know, and this will probably only come online in 2017 - check back then at:

Although, right now, Ancestry.ca has free acccess to Canadian records, after this expires (0500 2/7/2015), anyone can search 1921 and get images, transcriptions for free, but only via:
