If he is my relation it would be excellent,
I then have him from 1872 married to Jessie Chamber with his name spelt as Alfred James Ritchie and all the details after on his marriage his father is James Ritchie, a slator by trade.

On Alfred census he says born Scotland,
My auntie was told off her father he was born Inverness and he could not read on write.
Any help would be much appreciated

The birth details are all that's available on Ancestry. Scotlands People would be the best place

Am I reading this wrongly. If Alfred was born 1874, he couldn't be married to Jessie in 1871?

I think it may be a spelling error with the surname. Added: There is a couple on the censuses that match the spelling of the marriage. James is listed as a railway guard....may be a different family
