emigration to argentina

Bruce Report 16 May 2015 19:47

Henry Robinson Collingwood emigrated to Argentina between 1887 and 1913.
His wife Jane Collingwood emigrated to Argentina on 2.10.1913 on the S.S. Highland Pride.

Cannot find any record of her husband's emigration. He did not travel at the same time as his wife.

Can anyone find his travel.

A tree on ancestry has this. Don't know where it's from though.

Occupation

La Cascada Curumalan,FCD Argentina
Domestic servant

Death
1934 19 Jun Age: 70
Coronel Suarez, Buenos Aires

Burial

All his children were born in Argentina so the 1888 occupation is possibly from Elizabeth's birth certificate.

I think the record you have found for Jane is her returning to Argentina in 1913 possibly from a visit home. She was obviously In Argentina for the birth of her children from 1888.

First name(s) JANE
Last name COLLINGWOOD
Gender Female
Age 50
Birth year 1863
Occupation HOUSEWIFE
Departure year 1913
Departure day 2
Departure month 10
Departure port LONDON
Destination port BUENOS AIRES
Destination BUENOS AIRES
Country ARGENTINA
Destination country ARGENTINA
Ship name HIGHLAND PRIDE

Her country of Last Permanent Residence was ticked in the Foreign Countries column and she was intending to live in Argentina.

Hello Bruce, there are no UK outgoing passenger lists before 1890 so it's unlikely there will be any record.

If this is the record you refer to for Jane then it isn't when she emigrated. It looks like she'd perhaps been to the UK for a visit and was returning to Argentina. The image of the manifest shows that her usual permanent residence was in "Foreign Countries"

UK, Outward Passenger Lists, 1890-1960
Name: Jane Collingwood
Gender: Female
Age: 50
Birth Date: abt 1863
Departure Date: 2 Oct 1913
Port of Departure: London, England
Destination Port: Buenos Aires, Argentina
Ship Name: Highland Pride
Shipping line: Lelson Sinis
Official Number: 129086
Master: J Seary

I can't see a UK arrival for her but it's quite possible that she would have traveled from South America to somewhere in Europe and then onward to England. There are virtually no passenger lists of travel between Europe and England.

Please excuse my ignorance.
How do we know that it was a return from a visit. Rather than her initial emigration ?

Bruce
Their children were born in Argentina well before 1913, as posted above.

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 16 May 2015 22:36

Unless some other woman was having her husband's children , she had to be there

They clearly emigrated together soon after the marriage, and she returned to the UK for some reason, going back again in 1913.

Online travel records don't start until 1890............................

When did her parents die?

Bruce

Bruce Report 17 May 2015 21:28

I have not traced her parents yet, I have put it on my to do list

alviegal Report 17 May 2015 21:37

This has been put as her parents on the trees but there is no evidence to support it.
