I hope someone can help as I have a brick wall with the family tree.

I am looking for information re:

George Marshall Lanes from Normanton upon Trent Notts and then Lincolnshire.

Baptised/Christened 10 June 1843.

Mother Mary Lane

Father either Charles Marshall or Charles Marshall Lane/s.

Married: Martha Chamberlain and Mary Hardy.

Family search just has a mother at his baptism, so I would have assumed he was born out of wedlock, but that his father's surname might well have been Marshall.

This might just be coincidence, but in the 1851 census Beverly posted, George is living with an elderly Hannah Lane, who says she is a widow.

A single Hannah Lane appears to have given birth to a child called Mary Lane in 1823, ie same name as George's mother, no father mentioned on the baptism record:

Thank you all for your help everyone it looks like most of you have come to the same conclusion that Mary Lanes was unwed and her mother also was unwed when she had Mary.
I hadn't come across Hannah Wilmott so will pursue that link.
I am unsure if Charles Marshall shoe maker is Georges father as on his wedding certificate for Mary Hardy's wedding that I bought it says on the accompanying note that his father was Charles Marshall Lanes but I can't find any evidence of him being a Lanes so I will go along the line that Charles the shoemake is the father .
