Hi Jan
Unfortunately Ronald Edward Swain is not my dad he was a famous rugby player also known as Happy Swain or Hap. Apparently he died aged 81 in NZ.

Wow! Thanks so much! Yes the old lad did travel a lot - had a lady in every port as he was in the Merchant Navy with English and Norwegians. He emigrated to NZ in 1949 then came home some years later for a visit and met my mum the rest is history.

What's amazing is the chap I was asking about on an earlier thread was for a friend and not related to me at all but it seem he and my Dad were on the same ship and they also lived in the same town only yards from each other!!

Yes Gritty my dad did travel on British Courage.

Really really interesting THASNKS SO MUCH FOR THE INFO! Its made my day! :-D

Hello I posted a request for info earlier this evening regarding a chap who travelled to New Zealand. This request is un related so I hope it is OK to do on a new thread.

I completely forgot that my own dad emigrated to NZ but did eventually come back to the UK. I have just found an entry relating to his departure in 1949 .
Please could anyone tell me the DATE he travelled and his home address at time of departure also was he alone.
Edward Swain b1925 Manchester. Travelled from Southampton to Wellington 1949.

Many thanks. My dad has recently passed away and only shortly before his death did he even mention he had once lived in NZ!

Regards
Cassie

Please note I shall be on line for a short while then I am having to travel for several hours so will not be able to reply for a few hours. Don't want people thinking I am ignoring any replies. Thanks :-)
