Please can someone advise how to look for burials in Essex (maybe Ilford) 1920-1950. Is there an index?

The only 'index' is the NBI.

Look at its home page to see what the coverage is.

The other option is to find out exactly when people died, and where they lived (from the death certs) then contact local cemeteries

I am looking for Thomas Dench died 1936 Ilford Essex but cannot find burial or gravestone record. His wife Ellen died the next year but nothing for her either. There seems to be more than one cemetery in the area.

You need the exact address(es).

Ilford is the registration district..........NOT the place of death.

When you have that info, look for the nearest cemetery

They may not have been buried.............even if they were, there may not be headstones

Death was listed as Romford but I cannot find a site that has grave records. The family are sure there was a headstone. sonya

There isn't a site other than the NBI, as I said before.

Very little such info is online........you have to use other methods

Ask the 'family' if they know which cemetery..............

Do you have the death certs?

City of London Cemetery is not far from there .....would have thought that would be one of the main ones for the area
