I had some amazing help before on finding info on Williams son in law adam currie...now we have moved to William and his daughter grace...adams wife..we have a marriage cert for William and Elizabeth(lucy) sturgeon in1830 Dumfries, a birth cert for Elizabeth(1807 troqueer Dumfries) and a death for her in 1873, but can find no trace of Williams birth, or death(apart from one cert I did find showing a William grindall dying in 1874 I think it was in Kirkcudbright work/poorhouse!!) I didn't think that would be correct..tho the occupation shows tinsmith, which he was! also daughter grace currie( grindall)..have a marriage 1861 and death cert 1921 but can find no birth cert although she is on the 1851 census age 7(moffat parish)under the household of William and Elizabeth...any help advice on this would be great.."gritty" was a great help to us before if still out there!! :-)

It is much better to keep all requests about the same family together

You already have several threads about these people

One such..........

As all your research relates to Scotland, you should take note that Civil registration didn't come into force until 1855. So NO certs of any kind before that.

You need parish records, which will be on Scotland's People, (pay-to-view) or, possibly, on familysearch (free)

Check out those sites, if you haven't already done so

Why do you think it isn't YOUR William dying in the workhouse in 1874?

It seems to me that it would be very likely.

As for his birth, the best you would find would probably be a date of baptism and this was not compulsary in 1807.

hi
maybe I was HOPING William didn't end up in the work/poorhouse!!..it does look like we will just have to miss out on the birth certs of William and his daughter grace...some of the siblings of grace we have found, and some not...and yes scotlands people site seems to be best for Scottish hunts...thanks for all answers :-)
