Find Ancestors

I'm trying to identify a William Ottewell who in 1943 at the age of 23 married a Martha Etherington.

At the time William lived on Broxtowe Lane, Nottm and the marriage certificate appears to read, 1630642 Gunner HM Army. Wood machinist.

His father is recorded as Henry Ottewell, Labourer.

Circ's had led me to think he didn't survive WW11 although I can a similar who survived until 1996 and married a Doris Brown in 1948.

Any positive leads would be appreciated or what might really help short of knocking on the door 72 yrs later.
