JamesThwaites was born c 1837 Islington London Father Thomas mother Harriott

I have him from birth to death in 1906.
1841&1851 he was at home
1861 & 1871 he was married to Maria (transcribed as Mary in 1861) who was 2 years older than him from St Giles
1881& 1891 he was married to Martha 2 yrs younger than him from St Lukes
1901 he was a widow with young daughter Alice.

There were 4 children and I think Alice the youngest by 14yrs is Martha´s child.

What I can´t find is any sign of a marriage for him. To Maria, Martha or even Mary !

Clare I don´t think so as he was James all the way through mind I don´t have his actual birth and I do think his 1st wife is Maria rather than Mary and was just transcribed wrong in 1861

I had looked at the Maria Barker but wrong James.

Thanks also for Maria´s death I had been so stuck looking for a marriage I didn´t think to look for the death that at least cuts down the years of his 2nd marriage to Martha it has to be between 1871 and 1877 the YOB for young Alice ...

Rose- Martha Alice sounded good for awhile as her Daughter is Alice but the Martha I am looking for was b c1840 and died 1898

Maybe there is no marriage to find - twice over!

If Alice is indeed Martha's daughter, the birth certificate should give mmn
