Quite a few Manus Gallagher, born abt. 1871 Donegal but this is the only one I can see born in Gweedore:-

Many thanks for your reply:), my paternal grandparents are Manus Gallagher DOB Abt 1873 Tor, Gweedore and his spouse Fanny McConnell, 3/11/1877 Lettercaugh, Gweedore - I got these details from the Census taken in Ireland during 1901 and 1911. Manus Gallagher's mother was called Hannah Gallagher and also had a daughter called Margaret, she gave birth to 5 children of which 4 were still alive during the 1911 census when she was living with Manus in Tor, Gweedore. I don't know who the other two/three children are and would be grateful for any info/guidance.
Neither of my grandparents could read or write and their are no documents or family history as my father would not talk about his background when he was alive. We only know that they were very poor and came from a farm on Tor.
I have located birth details for my father and his siblings which I have detailed below:-

William Gallagher DOB 7/6/1917 -Tor, Gweedore died 23/11/2000 in Hamilton, Glasgow
Joseph Gallagher DOB 8/10/1919 -Tor, Gweedore DOD N/K
Father on all certificates is listed as Manus Gallagher, Farmer and X is his mark, mother is listed as Fanny Connor/O'Connor/McConnelly/McConnell - varies on certificates. All births are recorded as Tor, Parish/District of Gweedore, Co. Donegal.
My father James Gallagher married my mother Catherine McGee in Glasgow, Scotland. I am trying to find out:-
1. who was my gt grandmother Hannah Gallagher married to - she is the mother of Manus and Margaret Gallagher - no confirmed birth details for any of them, only 1901 and 1911 census records.
2. what are the names of Hannah Gallagher's other 3 children DOB and DOD
3. Can't find any marriage certificate for Manus Gallagher and Fanny McConnell - would be grateful for any guidance/info
4. Suspect Manus Gallagher was married before he was with Fanny McConnell due to his age - 40yrs - any details of previous marriage and family are most welcome
5. Can't find DOD for Manus Gallagher or Fanny McConnell - would be grateful for any guidance/info

In that case the 1911 census is the correct one, so here is a bit more information from the census:-

States Manus has been married for 1yr so abt. 1910, which narrows down at least the date.


Have you found Francis and Fanny on 1911 census?

Can't see a marriage for Manus in 1909 or 1910 either, but there is this one:-

................so I was wondering if he lied in 1911 census about being married for a year to cover the fact that he had a child who was born in 1910, and the couple didn't marry untill later????? Just a thought?

I think your thought on Manus Gallagher lying in the 1911 census about being married for a year to cover the fact that he had a child who was born in 1910 is correct. Do you know where/how I can obtain a copy of the marriage certificate to extract further information that may be available on it?

States both unmarried, so if he was married before he married Fanny then it would probably be between 1901 and 1910?

But.......... this one states his age is 26 which would not fit with 1911 census which gives his age as 40yrs?????

In which case Hannah's husband and Manus' father may be Charles, but need proof of that yet.
