This is a link to the original thread:

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1350782

It would probably be best to add any further info to that one as that is where all the background info is.

Just so we don't duplicate all the research.

Thanks Dea.

Just for info - it is always best to add to an existing thread rather than start a new one.

That way we have all the info already to hand and don't have to waste time re-finding things.

In order to bring attention to a new query added - perhaps you could edit the title to include something like 'more info needed please' or 'new query 4/4/15 ' and that would make people look at what you now need.

I have been looking for your old thread but the search on here is not working at the moment, perhaps you could find it under 'my threads' at the side of here and add a link to it on this thread?

Thanks,

Yes his mother was Esther.

I know I had a thread going about him and his wife but I have found in the past that if you add a new question it tends to get missed which is why I started this one.

Sorry If I have caused any problems and thanks for helping me.

Wasn't Thomas a child of William and Esther, or am I getting lost here?? :-S

I have a feeling I have come across this sort of thing before - I can't remember whether is was on FMP or Ancestry but a few months ago I tried to search for something which I have found before and a message came up to say that this search was not available during the free weekend, even though I am a member of both so was not using a 'free search' !

This may be the same thing happening here?

Try bumping this thread up again after the 'free time' is finished and we can see if anything is there then.

Thanks rootgatherer.

They didn't appear to be free this weekend but I also couldn't see them on Ancestry search list. I must be looking in the wrong place.

Thanks for looking for me.

Not sure Jane if you meant that those records weren't free this weekend but I've had a wee look for you and your Thomas doesn't seem to appear there. I do know that Ancestry does have Merchant Seaman records as I found one of my ancestors records (from the same time period) on those records.

Perhaps Thomas didn't go to sea but was just missed from the census.

I have just had a quick look and Merchant Seaman records and apprenticeship indentures do not seem to be included.

Please can someone tell me if Merchant Navy records are available on Ancestry?

If so please can you see if there are any for Thomas Gray b 1865 in Burton Upon Stather.Lincs He disappeared on 1891 census and there is a chance he was away at sea. He was a Joiner/shipwright.

The other thing I would like to find out about is if there are any Master/apprentice records available for him.

Thanks

Jane
