	I still can't see the births of any of Alice's Hall children, in the approximate years and the places stated in the censuses. The only Blanch(e) Halls born 1886-8 in Middlesex are Blanche Gertrude (birth already posted on page 1) and a Maude Blanch in Fulham in 1888. No sign of an Ernest Hall born Croydon 1890, though there's an Ernest Charles Hall born there in 1888. There are various Albert Halls born in Middlesex in 1884, but none in Hackney specifically. As they were all illegitimate, perhaps they were registered under their fathers' surnames?

	Well done finding Alice, alviegal! I couldn't find her marriage to a Hall, nor the births of any of her Hall children, despite much hunting.

	Assuming Alice's first husband died, and assuming all her children were also his, it would have been between 1889, when Ernest Hall was conceived, and 1892, when she married Ernest Cole. And presumably in Croydon. But if it's true that she was still married on 5th April 1891 (per census), I can't see the death of a likely Hall in Croydon between then and her re-marriage - a small window. Perhaps they divorced. Or perhaps she put "married" instead of "widowed", in which case there are several possibilities for her first husband's death 1889 -1892.

	From the place names and DOB, I would guess that this is Blanch's birth and marriage. The certificate for either of them would tell you her father's name. Births Dec 1888 (>99%) HALL Blanche Gertrude Hackney 1b 503 Marriages Dec 1930 (>99%) Hall Blanche G Wallace Croydon 2a 886 Wallace Frank Hall Croydon 2a 886 [EDIT: Or maybe not - there is a Blanche Gertrude Hall in later censuses, born about that time in Middlesex. Not sure.]

The only children born to Ernest and Alice that we know about at this point are Edith, Rose and Hector. Another 5 have apparantly died.

	Jason - If you're saying you don't understand why Blanch was a Hall - it's clear from the 1891 census posted by alviegal that Alice had been married before, and that Albert, Blanch, and Ernest were her children from her first marriage.
