I am trying to find out as much info. as I can regarding my Great Grandfather. I don't really know a lot about the Terry's only that my Grandfather Leslie Francis Terry was born in Worthing in 1915 and his father (my great grandfather was called William). My Grandfather Leslie had sisters called Jessica and Gladys and a brother called Ronald. My Grandfather Leslie Francis married Kathleen Roper in 1937, he met my Nan when he joined the Navy and came to Portsmouth.

Can anyone shed any light on my grandfather, Leslie's side of the family.

Jason, do you have Leslie's marriage cert? It would be useful to have William's occupation so that can be used to search 1911 census.

Use this free website to look for bmd's from latter half 1837 to approx. 1960/70 - it's an ongoing project going up to 1984 eventually

That shows grandad'sbirth registration in the East Preston Registration District, which covered Worthing. It shows his Mother's maiden name was Carter (only available from Q3 1911 onwards)

You can then look for a marriage of a Terry to a Carter, allowing a few years before 1915 in cast Leslie was not the first child.

You can also check for other births using the Terry/Carter combination (From Q3 1911). Unfortunately if the mother had been married before the use of mmn won't work.

As you are back to that era, they can then hopefully be picked up either as a married couple or as singles before they married on the 1911 census from where you can work back.
