Hello
I would like to hear from any member who might have Charles in their family tree please.
His parents were Samuel Gardner and Hannah Mill.
Thanks

Hi Pat

To find out if any other members have your family in their trees.......click on "Search" above and then click on "Search All Members Trees" from the drop down menu.

If you find any connections......you can then contact the tree owners by clicking on "Fnd Out More"

Is he the one that was baptised in 1803?

Hello everyone.
Thanks for your help.Yes he is the one bapt 1803.
We know he went to New South Wales on "The Mermaid" in Dec 1829 and arrived May 1830,after being transported for life in 1829.Finding out what happened to him after that could be difficult though.
That's why I wondered if another member had him on their tree and may be able to fill in some gaps. But I'll use the "search all trees" way to start with.

Te above is 'probably' the one I have found, with reference number, here:

Death:
516/1843 V1843516 27B GARDNER CHARLES AGE 37

a copy can be sent by e-mail or post to you for $31 Australian (I don't know how much that equates to ?

From:
https://familyhistory.bdm.nsw.gov.au/lifelink/familyhistory/search?10

However, the person on Ancestry who has the details of this in his tree must have a copy which he might share with you? - Worth making contact first.

That looks to be a better one to order Gritty and probably cheaper too.

I'm not sure Dea- the details from the link I posted seem to be the same as the record on Ancestry (which I've pm'd)-

The details from your link give his age (which is not on the Ancestry record) so this must be a different document or an actual death certificate? It may be worth paying the extra??

His crime was House Breaking.

Patricia

Patricia Report 21 Mar 2015 11:59

Hi Mel
Yes it was.
The original punishment was death, but new laws meant it was changed to transportation for life. He would probably have had a slap on the wrist these days.
Think he was married too.
